COMPUTER HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE

HARDWARE Refers to the parts of a computer that can be seen , touched and maybe felt (physical parts) ... pic from warepin.com

SOFTWARE  is just the opposite of hardware , it is a set of instructions given to the computer by the user. you cant see or touch these instructions

But we already know that right ? :)

THE BACK BUTTON

The "Back" button in a web browser allows you to go one level back to a previous page visited when clicked ... 

However, if you click the "down" arrow beside the " Back " button , it shows you a list of previously visited sites so that you choose a particular previously viewed page , instead of continuously clicking the " Back " button.

NB: With the Google Chrome Browser , click and hold the Back Button to Display  the list of previously visited websites

.. ADDING A COMMENT ON FACEBOOK ....

Previously when  writing a comment on facebook and you press ENTER, you move to the next line

BUT ...

 Most of you would have noticed by now that Facebook's New Feature is to  automatically add a comment when you hit ENTER  ... 

so the the question is , how do you move to the next line ?? 

SIMPLE .. Just press " shift + ENTER" to move to the next line..

1. Click TOOLS >> OPTIONS >> NETWORK ...
2. under Network Type , choose * 3G only *

For Vodafone Users , download Mobile Partner and follow the steps but under Network Type , choose * WCDMA only *

GUI= Graphical User Interface , CLI = Command Line Interface

when a software is said have GUI , it simply means that you can operate the software using images/graphical icons. GUI Softwares are user-friendly.
An example of GUI software is Microsoft Windows XP where u can click icons

CLI on the other hand is operated by text or should i say with mainly the use of a keyboard ... An example of CLI software is Microsoft DOS ( MS DOS ).

CLICK START >> RUN and type " cmd " ( without the quotes ) to experience what CLI is like :)

NOTEPAD LOG TRICK

This Trick keeps a log whenever you open the notepad file .... 

** open Notepad by Clicking START >> RUN .... or (start + R )
** on the Very first Line write .LOG (dot LOG).

whatever you choose to write should continue from the next line. 

** Save the file and re-open it , you will notice it writes down the time and date whenever you open that particular notepad file

Screen Savers do not save Energy. it simply prevents static images from burning themselves into your screen.

HOW TO OPERATE YOUR PC (MICROSOFT WINDOWS) WITHOUT A MOUSE.

There are two ways to do this, 
 
1. Enabling MOUSE KEYS in the ACCESSIBILITY OPTIONS 

2. using the TAB, shift , arrow keys , space bar , ctrl , alt keys and some few others 
Will show you how to use the keys to get to the accessibility options and activate the mouse keys.

NB: KEYBOARD ONLY !

1. >> Press the windows logo on your keyboard ( if you don't have the logo on your keyboard press CTRL+ESC to bring up the START menu )

2. >> Now with the use of the ARROW KEYS ( up, down, left, right) move to the CONTROL PANEL option and press ENTER

3. >> When the CONTROL PANEL window opens , Keep Pressing the TAB key till it highlights on the APPEARANCE AND THEMES option right under the PICK A CATEGORY text. Once it highlights on it , use the arrows keys and move to the ACCESSIBILITY OPTIONS option and press ENTER

4. >> just as the step above, Keep hitting the TAB key till it highlights the "ADJUST THE CONTRAST FOR TEXT AND COLORS ON YOUR SCREEN " option and use the arrow keys to move to the ACCESSIBILITY OPTIONS option and hit ENTER again.

5. >> NOW, we have the accessibility options window opened ...... OK, now hold down the shift key and press TAB ( shift +tab ) , it highlights the Keyboard tab. NOW press the RIGHT arrow key to move to the MOUSE tab

6. >> On the MOUSE tab, keep hitting the TAB key till it highlights on the " USE MOUSEKEYS option and press SPACE-BAR/SPACE to turn the box green. Now Keep hitting TAB KEY till it gets to the OK option and hit ENTER .

7. >> NOW press the NUM LOCK key , usually Located above the Number keys to activate the MOUSEKEYS

8. >> use Numbers 1-9 to move the mouse, AND number 5 to click !!! to right-click, press the plus/addition (+) key and use 5 , to return to normal clicking , press the minus/subtraction (-) key and use 5 to click again 

YOU ARE DONE !!! YOU HAVE NOW ACTIVATED THE MOUSE KEYS ! , pretty cool huh ??

MAKE ALL FILES VISIBLE ON USB DRIVE

Ever had the situation where you know you have files on your pen drive and they just disappear and all you are left with is a bunch of virus infected shortcuts ? ... this command helps you view all your hidden files

Click on START >>RUN >>type " cmd" and click OK.

Lets assume your pen drive has letter F:

Enter this command.

attrib -h -r -s /s /d f:\*.*

Note : Replace the letter f with your flash drive letter.

how to locate " Lost " or " misplaced " files ...

cant remember where you saved a file ?

1 . Go to START >> MY COMPUTER

2. When the MY COMPUTER window open press " ctrl + f " , it should open a search bar on the left side of the window

3. choose the kind of file you intend searching for whether its

a) Pictures, music , or videos

b) Documents

c) All files and folders

d) computers and people

Choose what you want, type the name/part of the name of the file and click search

NB: if you are not sure of the file you are looking for choose all files and folders ( which would be quiet hectic )

Upon checking the Website i want to touch only on the Homepage as i believe it is the Most Important Page in a website

**  The First impression about the website is the Solid, Professional look it has, especially the Blue theme about it makes it easy on the eye
**  I must admit their interface is very very User Friendly and easy to navigate ,
i didn't have to be a genius to navigate through the Website :)

The Homepage tells You What the Website is about  ( Big PLUS !)

**  offer web-based retail POS
**   Accessibility
**   and Total score control

Another Positive On the Homepage is that they have the Links to
**  POS Video  Tutorial
**  A LIVE DEMO where one can try out their web pos
**  ( IT WILL HELP if they added audio/speech to their POS  Video Tutorial)**

i Tried their Live Demo and as i said , found it to be user-friendly which is a HUGE Positive as it was my first using it.
POSTERITA  also boasts of Important Features like
User Friendliness
touch screen (touch pos)
 


**  The Only Problems i have with the homepage is it didnt have a visible FAQs Link ( Frequently Asked Questions ), As i believe FAQs are one of the Features that should be First Seen and not be in a Drop down box Under The Resources Section

**  Again, IT WILL HELP if POSTERITA added audio/speech to their POS  Video Tutorial

**  Also it failed (from my point of view) to explain what the whole POS concept was about. and i feel more Information should be added to the imgae on the homepage that displays the

" POSTERITA Is a Point Of Sales on the Cloud ....." Assuming someone is using the Website for Research and has no idea what web POS is.

Overall I am Impressed with the Website

IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) Number

IMEI  is a unique number given to every cell phone.....

There are 2 ways of checking your Cell Phones IMEI number
1. By dialing *#06# ( NB: doesn't work on all phones )

2.By removing the battery of your phone , the IMEI number is usually written behind the battery ( on the part of the phone where the battery is placed ) but not ON the battery.

Customizing windows XP Folders ....

Tired of the same boring folder icon you can change the icon by

STEP 1 . Right Clicking on the folder you want to customize and choose the " PROPERTIES" option

STEP 2. When the " PROPERTIES" window opens choose the "CUSTOMIZE" tab

STEP 3. Look for the FOLDER ICONS option on the lower part of the window and click the CHANGE ICON option to scroll through the different icons available , once you are done APPLY and click OK !

Disabling Automatic Software Updates ....

* Ever wondered why the credit you buy for browsing Finishes or depletes quickly when u haven't even surfed the internet ??

*i had this experience once when i bought some browsing credit and just after i logged in to yahoo mail i heard a knock on the door, when i got back in about 5 mins time ma credit had been zapped ....................

Most Softwares by Default have been configured to do updates automatically ( INCLUDING THE WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM ), so whenever you connect to the internet these softwares immediately search for updates and sometimes download them without your permission .......... 

You can usually disable AUTOMATIC UPDATES from the " SETTINGS >> UPDATES " option of most softwares .....

To Disable AUTOMATIC UPDATES of windows XP , the steps are 

1.Click START >> CONTROL PANEL >> SECURITY CENTER 
2. scroll down and you'll find the AUTOMATIC UPDATES icon, Click it and choose Turn Off Automatic Updates and you are done !!!!!
